How do I get a GED?

To find answers to all your questions about getting a GED, go to the American Council on Education's GED Testing Service site.

How do I find my testing center?

There are two ways to find your local testing center:

  1. Online Locator Service
  2. Call 1-800-626-9433 (800-62-MY GED)

How do I get a copy of my certificate?

Obtain a printable PDF containing your GED certificate and test scores by visiting Texas GED Certificate/Transcript Search. TEA no longer mails duplicate certificates/transcripts through the US Postal Service.  All record verifications and Certificate/Transcript Requests must be made using the automated system. This system also allows users to search for records online, verify record authenticity, and purchase and print the certificate on their own printer.  Download and print the Official Policy Letter.

Special note about changes to the certificate appearance– The style of the GED certificate has changed and while both the old and the new Certificate of High School Equivalency will continue to be recognized, starting in January 2012 TEA will only be issuing the new style certificate for examinees, including duplicate certificates. For more information, see this News Release.

NOTE - For any questions, services, or other information about GEDs in Texas, please contact your local testing center or GED Testing Services. TEA does not provide direct services such as locating testing centers or providing test scores to GED candidates, GED test takers, or GED certificate holders. For technical assistance regarding the printable PDF containing your GED certificate and test scores call 1-800-399-2969.
