Commissioner's Rules Review

From April through July 2010 the agency conducted a review of commissioner’s rules to identify areas of concern and seek ideas about how to ensure that the rules do not unnecessarily interfere with the ability of school districts to improve student performance or operate efficiently and effectively.

The following is a summary of that process:

Commissioner’s Rule Review – Summary 2010

Specific feedback and responses on the Rules are provided at the following links:

Please note: the Texas Education Agency is also continuing a four-year sunset rule review cycle, required by Texas Government Code, 2001.039, for all rules adopted by the Commissioner of Education, State Board of Education and State Board for Educator Certification. Public comment may be made in the sunset review process as notice of that review is published in the Texas Register for specific rules on that cycle. The sunset rule review is designed to ensure that "the reason for adopting or readopting the rule continues to exist." In accordance with statute, the Texas Education Agency filed the rule review plan with the Texas Register in February 2009.
