This site will provide you with information regarding the Texas high school graduation requirements.


House Bill 5

The Commissioner must adopt a transition plan to implement House Bill (HB) 5 and replace the Minimum High School Program (MHSP), Recommended High School Program (RHSP), and Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) with the foundation program beginning with the 2014-2015 school year.

The State Board of Education adopted changes to the high school graduation requirements in January 2012. These requirements were effective beginning with students who enter grade 9 in the 2012-13 school year. House Bill 3

House Bill (HB) 3, passed by the 81st Texas Legislature, includes changes to graduation requirements effective Sept. 1, 2009. The legislation does not permit the State Board of Education to designate a specific course or a specific number of credits in the enrichment curriculum as requirements for the recommended program, except as explicitly allowed in statute.

Survey on new financial accountability indicators now available

A brief survey asking for input on the indicators that will form the new financial accountability system required by House Bill 5 is now available on the TEA website’s home page. Two Texas students selected for National Youth Science Camp

The Texas Education Agency today announced that two students have been selected to represent Texas as delegates to the 2014 National Youth Science Camp. The National Youth Science Camp, one of the nation’s premier programs in secondary science education, is an annual summer forum where two delegates representing each state exchange ideas with leading scientists and other professionals from academic and corporate worlds.

  Texas Commissioner of Education Michael Williams today announced his decision to appoint a board of managers to oversee the management of the Beaumont Independent School District (BISD). The Commissioner also announced his intent to name a new superintendent for the district.

 The State Board of Education Friday broadened its call for new textbooks for Special Topics in Social Studies to include but not be limited to, Mexican American Studies, African American Studies, Native American Studies and Asian American Studies.
