Career and Technical Education Specific Requirements

Texas requires that candidates seeking career and technical education certifications based on skill and experience, except those qualifying for certification by exam in Marketing Education, must complete an approved educator preparation program. [TAC §230.105] 

Trade and Industrial Education

• Three to five years of full-time wage-earning experience within the past eight years [Statement of Qualifications form (PDF, 305.40 KB)] and
• Current licensure, certification, or registration by a state or nationally recognized accrediting agency as a professional practitioner in one or more approved occupations for which instruction is offered
• If the licensure, certification, or registration is not based on a recognized test or measurement, then passing of the appropriate National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) assessment is required.

Health Science Technology Education

•  Current licensure, certification, or registration by a nationally recognized accrediting agency as a health professions practitioner based on a program requiring at least two years of formal education   
•  Two years of wage earning experience utilizing the licensure requirement, [Statement of Qualifications form (PDF, 305.40 KB)]    
•  Bachelor's Degree 
• Approved Health Science Technology Occupations (PDF, 184.60 KB)   

Initial Marketing Education

• Two-years wage-earning experience in one or more of the marketing occupations [Statement of Qualifications form (PDF, 305.40 KB)]
• Bachelor's Degree

Marketing Education through Certification by Examination with Statement of Qualifications (SOQ)

• Current valid Texas classroom teaching certificate (PDF, 66.07 KB)
• Bachelor's Degree
• Two years wage-earning experience in one or more of the marketing occupations
•  SOQ approval for Marketing Education 8-12 from a Texas Independent School District (ISD):  Step-by-step instructions for obtaining exam approval through an ISD  and
• SOQ form for ISD's (PDF, 262.95 KB) or
• Exam approval for Marketing Education 8-12  from a Texas Approved Educatior Preparation Program (EPP):  Step-by-step instructions for obtaining exam approval through an EPP  and
