Requirements for Minimum High School Program

 

Before a student is permitted to pursue the Minimum High School Program (MHSP), a school district must provide written notice to the student’s parent or guardian explaining the benefits of the Recommended High School Program (RHSP).

Before a student is permitted to take courses under the MHSP, the student, the student's parent or guardian, and a school counselor or school administrator must agree that the student should be permitted to take courses under the MHSP, and the student must meet at least one of the following conditions:

(1) Be at least 16 years of age
(2) Have completed two credits required for graduation in each subject of the foundation curriculum under the Texas Education Code, §28.002(a)(1)
(3) Have failed to be promoted to Grade 10 one or more times as determined by the school district

The agreement must be in writing and signed by each party.

A student has the right to reenroll in the Recommended High School Program at any time.
