2009-2010 Even Start Family Literacy Grant Program
The following applicants have been preliminarily selected to receive a grant for the 2009-2010 Even Start Family Literacy Grant Program.
Program Purpose
The purpose of this program is to help break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy by improving the educational opportunities of low-income families by integrating early childhood education, adult literacy or adult basic education, and parenting education into a unified family literacy program, and establishing a program that:
- is implemented through cooperative projects that build on high-quality existing community resources to create a new range of services;
- promotes the academic achievement of children and adults; and
- uses instructional programs based on scientifically based reading research and addresses the prevention of reading difficulties for children and adults to the extent such research is available.
