When should you file a complaint?
If you believe a public agency, including the Texas Education Agency (TEA), has violated federal or state requirements related to special education, you may file a complaint with the TEA.
How to file a complaint?
In order for the TEA to conduct an investigation, your complaint must be written and signed. The complaint must include the violations you believe have occurred and state the facts on which your complaint is based. A complaint form is available in English and Spanish for your use. You do not have to use this form to file a complaint; however, all complaints must be written and signed.
In addition, whether you use the complaint form or write your own letter, you are required by law to send a copy of your to the public agency against which the complaint is filed. A checklist has been developed to ensure you submit all required information in order for the TEA to investigate your special education complaint.
