
The Employers for Education Excellence (EEE) award was established in 2007 by the Texas Legislature. Its purpose is to honor Texas employers who encourage and support staff participation and voluntarism in the public schools.
Any Texas employer is eligible to win the award, including private companies, nonprofit organizations, and state, local, federal and educational entities.
Current Winners
This year several leaders of the science and energy industry were among those recognized for their continuing support of Texas public school students. 2012 recipients of the EEE are the Association of Texas Professional Educators – Austin, Atmos Energy - Waco, ExxonMobil – Mont Belvieu Plastics Plant, Luminant: Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant, NASA – Johnson Space Center, Trinity ISD, Valero Energy Corporation, Pizza Properties Inc. dba Peter Piper Pizza, Laredo Federal Credit Union, and Lake Pointe Health Network. Nominations
Nominations are accepted March 1 through May 31 each year. The commissioner of education or his designee reviews the nominations and makes recommendations for the award winners. The recommendations are reviewed by the chair of the State Board of Education.
Awards are presented in the fall of each year.

Three levels of recognition
Employers are eligible to receive an award at one of three levels: bronze, silver, or gold. Eligibility is based on the business meeting the following criteria for one of the three levels:
Bronze
Awarded to an employer that implements a policy to encourage and support employees who attend parent-teacher conferences
Silver
Awarded to an employer that meets the requirements of bronze and implements a policy to encourage and support employees who volunteer in school activities
Gold
Awarded to an employer that meets the requirements of silver and implements a policy to encourage and support employees who participate in student mentoring programs in schools.
