Commissioner of Education
Michael Williams, former chairman of the Railroad Commission of Texas, was named commissioner of education by Texas Gov. Rick Perry effective Sept. 1, 2012.
This link provides a list of those who have served as the appointed commissioner of education since 1950. Prior to that time, the position was called the state superintendent of public instruction and was a statewide elected office.
