Arlington ISD- $445,291.00
Arlington ISD developed a research-based professional development model to participate in learning communities that create and analyze disaggregated student data, use the results to make informed decisions regarding the design and implementation of lessons, and develop strategies that result in significant and lasting improvements to teaching and learning. Participating teachers will develop technology-rich lessons that require students to use 21st century skills to solve problems. By design, the lessons will involve students in critical-thinking, communication, collaboration, innovation, and the application of information and media literacy skills. Teachers will learn how to participate in, and develop their own, online courses using software provided by the district.
Belton ISD- $484,944.00
Belton ISD’s STAR Grant program will build upon and expand on Belton ISD’s existing professional development plan as well as current practices of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) that are presently being implemented. With this grant, two new PLCs will be formed, one of grades K-12 social studies teachers, and one of grades 6-12 math teachers, with focus on the integration of technology. As teachers succeed in achieving high levels of technology integration, students will reap the benefits of improved instruction in core content subject areas plus enhanced technology knowledge and skills.
Bryan ISD- $458,030.00
Byran ISD’s STAR Grant plan will involve establishing and implementing a program that includes strong, supportive, and sustained leadership at the district and campus level. The grant program will include activities in that define strategies, provide appropriate timelines, provide opportunities for collaboration and coaching, include pedagogical and technical support, and provide expanded opportunities for students and adult learners. Leadership will promote a shared vision with policies that encourage continuous innovation with technology, leading to increased student achievement.
Dickinson ISD- $500,000.00
Dickinson ISD’s STAR Grant plan consists of 3 phases. In the first phase, administrators and district curriculum/technology specialists will receive Levels of Technology Implementation Academy training, which is nationally recognized for elevating technology use in the classroom. The second phase includes training teachers in the use of technology integration tools. Teachers will receive a laptop, document cameras, Interactive Write pads, projectors, Student Interactive Response Systems and TI SmartView software. Finally, the third phase will include follow-up LoTi training for administrators and team members, and plan modifications as necessary.
Edcouch Elsa ISD- $500,000.00
Edcouch Elsa ISD’s STAR Grant plan will be implemented to improve student academic achievement, address the dropout rate of students, ensure student/teacher technology literacy, and integrate technology in curriculum and instruction. Edcouch Elsa is committed to equip students with the 21st Century Skills which demand a high level of knowledge and high degree of technology competency. By ensuring full integration of technology throughout all curriculum and instruction, students will be prepared for success in the 21st Century.
El Paso ISD- $476,194.00
El Paso ISD’s STAR Grant plan aims to improve teacher’s pedagogical content knowledge through technology, as well as their ability to deliver conceptual, problem based instruction. The initiative will give administrators the opportunity to extend their technological base through high quality core curriculum instruction, and provide leadership strategies to support innovative and engaging education in our schools. EPISD will use a research based design model that focuses on specific teaching strategies through technology, and monitoring and planning activities for an ongoing basis.
ESC Region VII- $500,000.00
The ESC Region VII ’s STAR Grant plan is an innovative, researched based approach that is job embedded and on-going, requiring participants to be actively engaged through a variety of online formats. The administrators and teachers will take rigorous courses, actively participate in forums and threaded discussions, view streaming videos of mentor teachers, and other innovative activities. The participants will use technology to learn in the same way they will use technology to teach students in their classrooms.
ESC Region XII- $445,740.00
ESC Region XII has chosen the Intel Teach to the Future program to provide the background, orientation, and structure for technology integration to the leaders and teachers on the 19 campuses that will partner in the STAR grant. A Senior Trainer from the ESC 12 staff will offer free professional development to K-12 educators, focused on enhancing education with technology and student-centered learning approaches. Online professional development tools will be provided where learning will be collaborative, interactive, and customized for the individual learner as well as sustained, relevant and timely.
Garland ISD- $438,348.00
Garland ISD’s professional development program is designed to train teachers in new ways of using instructional strategies that reflect current research and contexts to engage students. The plan is multi-faceted. First, it concentrates on three middles schools with low TAKS scores in 2006, by providing math facilitators to work with teachers to improve performance. Next, the plan is designed to improve teaching and learning by integrating technology into the curriculum. Finally, formal workshops and academies will be held that focus specifically on issues facing our secondary schools.
Houston ISD- $493,366.00
Houston ISD’s STAR Grant professional development plan consists of “Effective Technology Integration”, a conglomeration of research-based models which includes face-to-face and online training opportunities, mentoring and coaching, conferences, and ongoing learning community activities. The focus of the professional development model is to provide educational technology leadership training and instructional training in the integration of technology in the curricula and instruction.
Irving ISD- $477,724.00
The 21st Century Learning STAR project will adapt Irving ISD’s model for Professional Development to support the needs of the project participants. The model differentiates the levels of staff development topics offered based on the experience level of the staff. District and Campus learning teams will be established to provide a core group of leaders to monitor project progress at each participating campus. In addition, Irving.Net, a community technology training network supported primarily by Irving ISD, will continue to provide free and low-cost technology training for adults in the Irving community.
Lometa ISD- $500,000.00
Lometa ISD’s STAR grant program consists of the “train-the-trainer” model for the professional development and Classroom Connect as the provider, based on the needs of the district. Train-the-trainer is a research-based model that is proven to build capacity and leadership skills. In addition, Classroom Connect has the vast knowledge, resources and experience to provide teachers, principals, administrators, and school library media personnel of varying technology skills with the knowledge, skills, and classroom strategies to effectively integrate technology into the classroom, resulting in improved student achievement as measured by assessments.
Mission ISD- $439,101.00
Mission ISD’s STAR Grant plan focuses on leadership training. Activities planned for the Leadership Team offer school principals, assistant principals and curriculum coordinators the opportunity to explore ways to promote the effective use of technology in the classroom. The desired outcome for all participants is to use fully-developed standards based unit plans and resources for curriculum in the subject that they teach. The result will be students engaged in technology supported projects that promote the use of 21st century skills.
Pasadena ISD- $490,842.00
Pasadena ISD will use Professional Learning Communities to enhance its professional development, by focusing on e-learning, learner study groups, modeling technology use, engaging parents, and sustaining the commitment of technology integration into classroom instruction. School administrators will attend technology leadership training to learn strategies for creating technology informed learning environments that promote critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Rio Grande City CISD- $400,000.00
Rio Grande City CISD will select a group of teachers to participate in professional development funded by the STAR Grant. The district will contract with the Texas Computer Education Association, in order to meet the staff development needs of this proposal. The program is centered on six PBS TeacherLine Courses to effectively integrate technology and will be supplemented by face-to-face sessions with a facilitator from the TCEA.
Sam Rayburn ISD- $481,345.00
Sam Rayburn ISD’s STAR Grant plan is a continuous process of individual and collective examination of practice. It empowers educators to make multifaceted decisions, identify and solve problems, and connect theory, practice, and student outcomes. It should also enable teachers to offer students the learning opportunities that will prepare them to meet world-class standards in given content areas. By focusing on leadership for technology in schools, SRISD can optimize its benefits in learning, teaching, and school operations.
San Antonio ISD- $500,000.00
San Antonio ISD’s STAR Grant plan offers teachers a classroom set of technology tools and resources such as a computing device with Windows CE, USB microscopes, probes, and sensors that will be applied to science investigations in and outside of the classroom. Students will use the technology tools to collect and analyze data and create an electronic representation of their findings. Teachers will receive professional development on the devices through distance learning, with customized learning modules that range from appropriate uses of the technology to monitoring rubrics for evaluation.
San Benito ISD- $493,232.00
San Benito ISD’s STAR Grant plan is based on the Technology Leadership Academy training provided by the Texas Computer Education Association. A TLA consultant will be contracted to tailor additional training to the district’s need throughout the project and after the grant cycle is completed. The professional development will consist of training in awareness of technology tools, mastery of technology tools, seeing new possibilities for learning and teaching, establishing new classroom management techniques, integrating project-based learning, and participating in online communities.
San Diego ISD- $177,184.00
The goal of San Diego ISD’s STAR Grant program is to fully integrate the use of technology into the daily activities of schools, by changing leadership styles, instructional styles, and learning styles. Through workshops, meetings, and follow-up, San Diego ISD will work to improve their leadership, planning, presentation, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up support in the area of technology..
SER-Ninos Charter- $355,352.00
SER-Ninos Charter is using the Active Learning with Technology professional development program with their STAR Grant funding. The program includes print and web resources designed to support teachers in developing learner-centered environments supported by technology. ALT provides pedagogical and technical support strategies for teachers and administrators and includes 19 professional development modules to put learning into practice.
Somerville ISD- $456,005.00
Somerville ISD’s STAR Grant program consists of building professional learning communities focused around technology integration that is student centered and focused on student achievement. In order to provide professional development with sustainability, the program aims to focus on an articulated purpose, emphasize particular issues of pedagogy and curriculum, sustain persistent effort over time, and engage teachers and school leaders in multiple roles. Teachers and school leaders will not only be participants in the professional development but based on best practices in adult learning, they will be active decision makers in an ongoing process of goal identification.
Taylor ISD- $110,322.00
Taylor ISD’s STAR Grant program is a long-term, comprehensive, customized professional development program designed to move the district forward in its use of technology as a tool to enhance student learning. Groups of teachers will be identified to serve as mentors on their campus, and the district will continue to use these mentors to ensure all teachers have continuous and comprehensive training. Teachers will receive hands-on workshops and ongoing online learning to ensure proficiency technology applications such as word processing, web resources, organization and brainstorming, software, data collection and multimedia applications.
Temple ISD- $489,412.00
Temple ISD will be implementing the Intel Teach to the Future Program, consisting of 32 hours face-to-face or 36 hours of a hybrid face-to-face and online training course for teachers. As teachers progress through this course, they collaborate with other teachers and discuss ideas for both introducing and using technology in the classroom. The Teach Thinking with Technology course will also be offered to address and assess thinking skills and use technology to support deeper understanding of core content. The goal is for teachers to leave prepared to effectively implement a ready-to-use project that engages students and helps them to communicate their understanding of complex concepts.
Trinity ISD- $268,994.00
The Trinity ISD STAR Grant professional development program is based on research by the Annenberg Institute for School Reform (AISR) at Brown University and supports and encourages the use of two professional learning communities- one for technology leaders, and one for educators. The purpose and goal of each learning community is to expand the knowledge of the participants and encourage innovation. These communities will attend professional development to establish a campus vision for classroom technology, technology planning, and skills to assess and evaluate the integration of technology in the classroom.
Waller ISD- $249,958.00
Waller ISD’s Technology Mentor Project is a sustainable, campus based, staff development project designed to provide participating campuses with grass-roots level assistance and guidance needed to implement technology integration activities. Through the creation of Technology Mentor teams, day-to-day mentoring and peer instruction is placed on each campus. By providing training for campus staff, the program provides a staff development solution that can be sustained over time and builds the capacity of the campus to improve and increase its level of technology use over time.
Ysleta ISD- $487,598.00
Ysleta ISD’s integrating Technology, Academics, Leadership & Knowledge (iTalk) will build a multi-pronged approach towards change with focus on preparing educators to meet the needs of 21st century learners. ITalk will build capacity in integration, leadership, and knowledge, as well as the ability to sustain over time. In addition, iTalk will provide embedded support for integration and build strong leadership and vision.
