2009-2010 Minimum Salary Schedule

State Minimum Salary Schedule for Classroom Teachers, Full-Time Librarians, Full-Time Counselors, and Full-Time Nurses (RN) (Section 21.402(c), Texas Education Code)

The state minimum salary schedule is calculated in accordance with the provisions of TEC 21.402(a) and applies only to classroom teachers, full-time librarians, full-time counselors and full-time nurses (RN). In no instance may a school district pay classroom teachers, full-time librarians, full-time counselors or full-time nurses (RN) less than the state base salary listed for that individual's years of experience.

Section 21.401 of the Texas Education Code specifies that an educator employed under a 10-month contract must provide a minimum of 187 days of service.

The 2009-2010 salary schedule does not include the salary increase established by section 21.402 (c-1) as added by the 2009 Legislative session. The actual amount required to be paid to an eligible employee during the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school years must be determined under Section 21.402(c-1) of the Education Code. That section requires each school district to increase the monthly salary of an eligible employee by the greater of $80 per month, or an amount that represents $60 per student in weighted average daily attendance (WADA) across all eligible employees, above what the individual would have been paid on the district's 2008-2009 salary schedule.

Full-time speech pathologists were not placed on the state mandated minimum salary schedule. However, for 2009-2010 school year, full-time speech pathologists are required to receive the greater of $80 per month or an amount that represents $60 /WADA, above what a full-time speech pathologist would have been paid on the district's 2008-2009 salary schedule.

For the purpose of determining the uniform monthly amount, the product of $60 multiplied by the number of WADA should be reduced by related social security coverage costs and by related payments made by the district under Section 825.405, Government Code.
