1. How do I get a duplicate copy of my GED Certificate/Transcript? 

Obtain a printable PDF containing your GED certificate and test scores by visiting Texas GED Certificate/Transcript Search.  The mandatory fee of $5 can be paid by credit card or check (ACH).  The certificate must be printed during this transaction.

Special note about changes to the certificate appearance– The style of the GED certificate has changed and while both the old and the new Certificate of High School Equivalency will continue to be recognized, starting in January 2012, TEA will only be issuing the new style certificate for examinees, including duplicate certificates. For more information, see this News Release.

2. How do I get a certified copy of my GED Certificate/Transcript mailed in a sealed envelope?

TEA no longer mails duplicate certificates/transcripts through the US Postal Service.  All record verifications and Certificate/Transcript purchases must be made using the automated system. This system also allows users to search for records online, verify record authenticity, and purchase and print the certificate on their own printer.  Download and print the Official Policy Letter.

3. How do I get my current scores to finish testing?

To obtain your incomplete test scores, please contact your local paper-based testing center. There are two ways to find you testing center:

4. Can I take the GED exams on computer?

The Texas GED program  began computer-based testing (CBT) March 6, 2013.  To register, go to  www.GEDcomputer.com.  Not all testing centers will implement the CBT at the same time, but paper-based testing will continue to be available through December, 2013.  For more information, please visit our Computer-based Testing page.

6. What are the eligibility requirements to take the GED exams?
To take the GED exams in Texas, an individual must be a resident of Texas, have a government-issued photo ID and be 18 years of age or older.  For more detailed information and exceptions, please visit our Eligibility Page.

7. When will the new test series begin?
The 2014 GED Test Series will begin January 1, 2014.

8. Will my current scores remain valid for the new test series?

No.  Scores cannot be combined from different test series.  All incomplete 2002 GED test series scores will expire on December 31, 2013.  Please complete your testing as soon as possible as demand for testing opportunies will increase through the end of 2013.

9. What are the passing score requirements to earn a GED Certificate?

To earn a GED Certificate during the 2002 GED Test Series, one must achieve a minimum of 410 on each of the five exams and a total score of 2250 (450 average). 

10. How do I prepare to take the GED Exams?

Study material is available at most libraries and book stores. Most preparation books have practice tests that will help you determine when you are ready to test.  There are also websites with helpful information, such as these Sample test questions and Practice Tests.
