Online College and Career Preparation Assistance Resource Site

 

Purpose

The Online College and Career Preparation Assistance Resource Site was designed to improve Texas students’ positive post-secondary outcomes with regard to college-going rates and career attainment. The resource site is a free, statewide, web-based portal which includes tools for: career exploration and planning; college awareness and information; job and career attainment; and college admissions.

Tools specific to career preparation include:

  • Career interest, values and skills inventories
  • Career matching based on inventory profile
  • Career search
  • Occupational data including high-growth, high-earnings careers
  • Resume building
  • Interview tutorials
  • Education planning related to career interests
  • Long-term goal setting

Tools specific to college preparation include:

  • College aspiration building
  • College types and settings
  • College matching based on aspirations and interest
  • College search
  • College entrance requirements
  • Applications
  • Financial planning including loans, grants, scholarships and family savings

Eligibility

All Texas students in grades 6 through 12 who attend a public or open-enrollment charter school are eligible to use the free resource site. Additionally, parents and educators are eligible to use to the site to support their students.

The site is designed as an open-access portal. Eligible students, parents and educators may access the site at: www.texascollegeandcareer.org and begin work in the site by clicking “First time user/Register”.

New users who wish to receive training can visit the site’s Training Center to learn more about available features and best practices for implementing the tool with students.

Performance

The Online College and Career Preparation Resource site was developed with requirements for performance that would best align with the needs of Texas students, families and schools. These performance requirements include:

  • Focused pages for students, parents, educators
  • A safe and secure online environment in full compliance with FERPA and COPPA privacy regulations
  • A single online tool serving as a comprehensive one-stop for students
  • Links to supplemental resources, including other Texas initiatives
  • Full site availability in either Spanish or English
  • Individual user logins which allows students to create a personalized portfolio which stores their information for access at home or school
  • Task completion and student preparation tracking and reporting tools for schools
  • Customized resources for students at risk for dropping out of school
  • Quarterly and final performance reporting to learn best practices and project successes
