Adelaida Olivares, principal of the Freshman Academy at Del Valle High School, was named recipient of the 2009 Milken Educator Award. The prestigious award carries with it a cash prize of $25,000, which Olivares can spend on anything she wishes. |

| 2009 Blue Ribbon Schools Recognition Event |

TEA and the State Board of Education recognized 26 schools that were awarded the No Child Left Behind/Blue Ribbon School status in 2008. Five schools received recognition for dramatic improvement in student achievement and 21 schools were recognized for academic excellence. Two principals received the Terrel Bell award for school leadership and a proclamation from Texas Governor Rick Perry. |
