The admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) committee determines which assessment is appropriate for each student based upon his or her individual needs. In order to make this decision, ARD committees must be familiar with the statewide assessment options available to students as well as how their decisions impact a student’s academic future. If it is unclear whether a student graduates under the TAKS program or the STAAR program, contact TEA’s Student Assessment Division at 512-463-9536.

    * TAKS and TAKS (Accommodated) grades 9 and 10 tests are not available and students who take these tests will not be assessed. Additionally, TAKS- M will not be available; therefore students who meet the participation requirements for this modified assessment will not test.

** The STAAR Modified assessments will be administered for the final time during the 2013-2014 assessment cycle. The U.S. Department of Education has informed states that assessments based on modified standards for students served by special education cannot be used for accountability purposes after the 2013-2014 school year.  Further information regarding plans for the inclusion of this population of students in the general assessment program beginning in the 2014-2015 school year will be forthcoming.
