The purpose of the Intensive Technology-Based Academic Intervention Pilot Program is to provide intensive technology-based supplementary instruction in English, mathematics, science or social studies for students in grades 9 through 12 identified as being at risk of dropping out of school.
Eligibility
A school district and open-enrollment charter school was eligible to apply if:
- 45% or more of the students enrolled in the district were identified as being economically disadvantaged for each of the preceding 3 school years
- 45% of more of the district's Grade 9-12 students were identified as being at-risk of dropping out of school for the 2007-2008 school year
Cycle 1
- 13 grantees
- Teachers enrolled in college technology courses to improve digital literacy
- Use of open source on-line resource to create learning communities
- Creation of a school within a school with technology supplemental instruction
- Use in math and science courses
- Use for reading teacher training and professional development
Cycle 2
- 23 grantees
- 24/7 access to program for students
- Use of iPod/iTouch technology
- Use of virtual schools
- Real-time tutors
A final evaluation progress report from each grantee is due to TEA at the end of the project period.
Additional funding was not allocated for the program for FY2010 or FY2011.
