After- or extended-school programs provide supplementary assistance to local reform efforts in raising academic achievement in core subject areas.

Expanded Learning Opportunities Council

The Expanded Learning Opportunities Council (ELO Council), established by the 83rd Texas Legislature’s Senate Bill 503 and codified in Texas Education Code Chapter 33.251-260, is authorized to study issues related to expanded learning opportunities and review structured programs outside of the regular school day. The ELO Council will develop a comprehensive statewide action plan that focuses on innovative, hands-on learning approaches to complement current school curriculum by November 1, 2014, and provide updates on implementation and recommendations by November 1, 2016.
