Algebra Readiness Grants are designed to implement programs that increase the preparedness of middle school students to meet standards and pass assessments in Algebra I.
Intervention programs are designed to:
increase teachers’ mathematic content knowledge
equip school leaders to support and facilitate teachers’ efforts to increase student achievement in mathematics
provide middle school students with targeted intervention services
The Texas Education Agency focuses state and federal resources on identifying and replicating proven strategies for dropout prevention and recovery. The Algebra Readiness program provides targeted academic support to help address skill gaps and enrich the learning environment for students who are off track and struggling.
Public school districts and open enrollment charter schools were eligible to apply for funding on behalf of a campus that met both of the following criteria:
- The campus must serve students in grades 6-8 or grades 7-8
- An average of 65% or fewer students in grades 7 and 8 met the TAKS Mathematics passing standards on the first administration when averaged over the preceding three school years.
- Number of districts: 32
- Number of campuses: 73
- State-level Evaluation-Rider 42 due to Texas Legislature 2013
- Participating in research study conducted by the University of Texas at Dallas Education Research Center for all Rider 42 related projects.
