SUMMARY: This item provides the State Board of Education (SBOE) an opportunity to approve a governance reporting form for open-enrollment charter schools.
STATUTORY AUTHORITY: Texas Education Code (TEC), §12.119.
PREVIOUS BOARD ACTION: The State Board of Education (SBOE) annually approves the governance reporting forms for open-enrollment charter schools.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND SIGNIFICANT ISSUES: TEC, §12.119, charges the SBOE with prescribing a form for the reporting of the names, amount of annual compensation received, addresses, and telephone numbers for each officer and member of the governing body of an open-enrollment charter school.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
PUBLIC AND STUDENT BENEFIT: In accordance with current statute, the approval of open-enrollment charter schools will provide new avenues for local restructuring, flexibility, innovation, and choice options for parents and students. The collection of governance information, as provided by TEC, §12.119, enables the Texas Education Agency to efficiently further these purposes. Both agency and public communication with charter schools is improved by ready access to charter school governance information.
PROCEDURAL AND REPORTING IMPLICATIONS: Annually, charter schools must provide names, amount of annual compensation received, addresses, and telephone numbers for each officer and member of the governing body of an open-enrollment charter school.
