(1) Proposed Repeal of 19 TAC Chapter 113, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Social Studies, Subchapter A, Elementary, §§113.1-113.7, Subchapter B, Middle School, §§113.21-113.24, and Subchapter C, High School, §§113.31-113.39, and 19 TAC Chapter 118, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits, Subchapter A, High School, §118.1 and §118.2, and Proposed Amendments to 19 TAC Chapter 113, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Social Studies, §§113.10, 113.17, and 113.40, and 19 TAC Chapter 118, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits, §118.3

This item presents for first reading and filing authorization the proposed repeal of 19 TAC Chapter 113, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Social Studies, Subchapter A, Elementary, §§113.1-113.7, Subchapter B, Middle School, §§113.21-113.24, and Subchapter C, High School, §§113.31-113.39, and 19 TAC Chapter 118, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits, Subchapter A, High School, §118.1 and §118.2. The proposed repeal would remove the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) adopted to be effective in 1998 for Kindergarten-Grade 8 and high school social studies and economics courses, and related implementation language, that will be superseded by 19 TAC §§113.10-113.20 and 113.40-113.48 and 19 TAC §118.3 and §118.4 of these chapters beginning with the 2011-2012 school year. This item also presents for first reading and filing authorization proposed amendments to 19 TAC Chapter 113, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Social Studies, §§113.10, 113.17, and 113.40, and 19 TAC Chapter 118, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits, §118.3, to remove references to rules that would be repealed. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §§7.102(c)(4), 28.002, and 28.025.

(2) Recommendations Regarding Readoption of Instructional Materials
(Committee on Instruction)

This item recommends readoption of instructional materials with contracts that expire on August 31, 2011. This action is recommended to ensure that these materials remain available for distribution to school districts until new replacements become available. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §31.003.

(3) Adoption of an Annual Report on the Status of the Bond Guarantee Program
(Committee on School Finance/Permanent School Fund)

This item provides an opportunity for the committee and board to adopt an annual report on the status of the Bond Guarantee Program. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Constitution, Article VII, §5(f).

(4) Ratification of the Purchases and Sales of the Investment Portfolio of the Permanent School Fund for the Months of March, April and May 2011

This item provides an opportunity for the committee and board to consider approval of the purchases and sales of securities executed in the portfolio of the Permanent School Fund for the months of March, April and May 2011. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Constitution, Article VII, §5(f).

(5) Recommendation for Appointment to the Randolph Field Independent School District Board of Trustees
(Committee on School Initiatives)

This item provides an opportunity for board consideration of one appointment to the board of trustees of the Randolph Field Independent School District. The appointment is necessary due to the vacancy of office for one board member. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §11.352, and 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §61.2.

(6) Recommendation for Appointments to the Fort Sam Houston Independent School District Board of Trustees
(Committee on School Initiatives)

This item provides an opportunity for board consideration of appointments to the board of trustees of the Fort Sam Houston Independent School District. The appointments are necessary due to the expiration of the term of office for three board members. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §11.352, and 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §61.2.

(7) Recommendation for Appointments to the Boys Ranch Independent School District Board of Trustees
(Committee on School Initiatives)

This item provides an opportunity for board consideration of appointments to the board of trustees of the Boys Ranch Independent School District. The appointments are necessary due to the expiration of the term of office for two board members. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §11.352, and 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §61.2.
