Ethics Training Concerning the Duties of State Board of Education Members

STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION: NO ACTION
SUMMARY: This item will provide State Board of Education (SBOE) members with a discussion of the ethics statutes and rules that apply to SBOE members. In particular, some advanced questions may be addressed.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND SIGNIFICANT ISSUES: Under the Permanent School Fund (PSF) Code of Ethics, the SBOE is required to have yearly ethics training. Texas Education Code (TEC), §43.0031 and 19 TAC §33.5(s).
FISCAL IMPACT: This training will help SBOE members be more aware of the applicable ethics rules and statutes and may ensure that potential ethical problems are avoided.
PUBLIC AND STUDENT BENEFIT: This training will help to ensure that all SBOE business is conducted according to high ethical standards.
PROCEDURAL AND REPORTING IMPLICATIONS: None.
