Subject: Suspension of the Requirement to Submit Campus-Level Teacher Evaluation Scores

For the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school years, districts will not be required to submit a summary of campus-level evaluation scores from the Professional Development and Appraisal System (PDAS) or the district’s locally adopted appraisal system to their regional service center as required by 19 Texas Administrative Code §150.1010(b).

While the Texas Education Agency (TEA) maintains that high quality appraisals are a foundation for educator professionalism and improvement, and that gathering data on the effectiveness of educator evaluations is important, data gathered after the 2010-2011 school year indicated there was little variation in teacher appraisal results across Texas. This decision complements a prior decision to stop collecting broader sets of data regarding teacher and principal appraisals as required by State Fiscal Stabilization Fund and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. TEA is in the process of developing a new teacher appraisal instrument to be available in the 2014-2015 school year.
