1. Election of Chair

State Board of Education (SBOE) operating rules call for each committee to elect a chair from among its members. This item provides an opportunity for each of the SBOE standing committees to elect a chair in the event that the SBOE elects to retain the existing committee structure. The chair may appoint a vice chair. If the board changes the committee structure, the committee may elect a member to preside over this first meeting only. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Education Code, §7.107.

2. Adoption of the Review of 19 TAC Chapter 30, Administration, Subchapter A, State Board of Education: General Provisions
(Adoption of Review)
Texas Government Code, §2001.039, establishes a four-year rule review cycle for all state agency rules, including State Board of Education (SBOE) rules. This item presents the adoption of the review of 19 TAC Chapter 30, Administration, Subchapter A, State Board of Education: General Provisions. The rule being reviewed establishes the SBOE process for petitioning the adoption of changes to SBOE rules, as required by Texas Government Code, §2001.021. Statutory authority for the rule review is Texas Government Code, §2001.039. Statutory authority for 19 TAC Chapter 30, Subchapter A, is Texas Government Code, §2001.021.

3. Update on the Status of Charters Recently Awarded and Attendance at the Generation 18 Applicant Information Session
This item provides staff an opportunity to update the board on the current seventeenth generation charter applicant cycle and discuss the upcoming open-enrollment charter guidelines and applications. Statutory authority is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §12.101 and §12.110.
