TO THE ADMINISTRATOR ADDRESSED:

SUBJECT: US Department of Education Guidance on Use of Federal Funds for Conferences and Meetings, Including Related Food Costs

On May 15, 2013, the US Department of Education (USDE) issued clarifying guidance on how federal grant funds may be used to pay for conferences and meetings. The guidance, in the form of frequently asked questions (FAQ), also includes information on food and travel costs.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will be updating its cost guidelines to align with the clarified USDE guidance beginning with all grants for the 2013-2014 school year.

A message will be issued via the Grants Administration and Federal Program Compliance (GAFPC) listserv when those updates are complete. In the meantime, grantees can refer directly to the USDE guidance, which is posted in the Allowable Cost Guidance section of the Grant Management Resources page of the TEA website.

With any questions related to allowable costs, email the Division of Grants Administration at grants@tea.state.tx.us.

Sincerely,

Cory Green, Chief Grants Administrator

Division of Grants Administration
