1. Discussion Regarding the Scope of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) 

This item provides the opportunity for the committee to discuss the definition of essential as related to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The committee will also discuss potential guidance for future TEKS review committees. Statutory authority is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §§7.102(c)(4), 28.002, and 28.025.

2. Information Session Regarding Workforce Skills 

This item provides the opportunity for the committee to hear invited testimony in preparation for the upcoming review and revision of the career and technical education (CTE) TEKS. Statutory authority is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §§7.102(c)(4), 28.002, and 28.025.

3. Discussion of the High School Equivalency Program 

This item provides the opportunity for the committee to discuss the High School Equivalency Program, the Texas Education Agency’s current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with General Educational Development Testing Services (GEDTS), and the transition from a paper-based test (PBT) to a computer-based test (CBT). Statutory authority is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §7.111.

4. Proposed Revisions to 19 TAC Chapter 89, Adaptations for Special Populations, Subchapter C, Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency
(First Reading and Filing Authorization)
 

This item presents for first reading and filing authorization proposed revisions to 19 TAC Chapter 89, Adaptations for Special Populations, Subchapter C, Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency. The proposed revisions would incorporate changes resulting from direction from the State Board of Education (SBOE) Committee on Instruction at its November 2012 meeting to continue the relationship with the General Educational Development Testing Service (GEDTS) and to transition from a paper-based test (PBT) format to a computer-based test (CBT) format as of January 1, 2014. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §7.111, as amended by Senate Bill (SB) 1536, and House Bill (HB) 2058, 83rd Texas Legislature, Regular Session, 2013.

5. Discussion of Annual Audit Reports for Credit by Examination from Texas Tech University and The University of Texas at Austin 

This item provides the opportunity for the committee to discuss the annual audit reports submitted by Texas Tech University and The University of Texas at Austin regarding examinations used for credit by examination. Statutory authority is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.023.
