Board Term: Jan. 1, 2023 - Jan. 1, 2027

Julie Pickren was born and raised in Houston, Texas and currently resides near Pearland, Texas with her husband David and two sons, Miles and Tyler. Currently, Mrs. Pickren is a home school mom since her son is the youngest student enrolled in Liberty University Dual Credit Program School of Business. Julie has a joy for learning and is currently enrolled in The Wharton School of Business Executive Leadership Program. Mrs. Pickren has a core belief that families are the foundation for our society and parents are the first educators and primary decision makers for their children.

Like many across the district, Mrs. Pickren is a successful small business owner. Reinvesting in the community and supporting charities is very important to her family. Profits from their businesses provide financial support for multi-cultural churches and pro-life ministries. Since her husband and children are citizens of The Choctaw Nation, she also invests in real estate to provide affordable housing and small business economic opportunities for Native American Indians in The Choctaw Nation.

Mrs. Pickren has a longstanding education leadership experience while serving in many capacities including serving as a board member of two Christian private schools, an Alvin ISD Trustee from 2015-2021, and an education policy advisor for many states. During her tenure as Alvin ISD Trustee, Mrs. Pickren saw many successes and awards. Alvin ISD is a fast growing school district that built 9 new schools while honoring the state compressed tax rate, thus, saving the taxpayers millions of dollars. She has received many awards for fiscal responsibility and student success and an Honor Board Award. Mrs. Pickren is proud of her record as being a huge proponent for teachers. Under her leadership, Alvin ISD lead the state with teacher salaries and benefits and had one of the highest amounts of their M&O budget directly tied to the classroom. Julie believes that together we can ensure our children’s education prepares them to achieve the American Dream with Texas Values.

Pickren represents the State Board of Education District 7 Counties of Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, and Tyler.
