Norma Torres-Martinez will serve as
deputy associate commissioner for the Texas Education Agency
AUSTIN— Commissioner Robert Scott announced today that Norma Torres-Martinez will serve as the Texas Education Agency's deputy associate commissioner for standards and alignment.
Under the direction of Associate Commissioner Anita Givens, Torres-Martinez will oversee strategic direction and policy development in the divisions of curriculum, textbooks and educational technology.
Torres-Martinez brings knowledge and experience to this position, having served as a mathematics teacher in the Corpus Christi and Judson Independent School Districts and as the coordinator for mathematics and science education at the Region 20 Education Service Center in San Antonio. She has been an employee of the Texas Education Agency for the past five years in the division of curriculum as the director of mathematics and currently is serving as the foundation unit director in that division.
Torres-Martinez holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin and a secondary teaching certificate in mathematics.
