Businesses who promote employee volunteerism in public schools eligible for honor
AUSTIN – Applications will be accepted in June and July for the 2010 Employers for Education Excellence (EEE) Award, which honors Texas employers who encourage and support employee participation in school activities.
Any employer in the state of Texas is eligible to apply for the award, which was established by the Texas Legislature in 2007. Private businesses may apply for the honor along with nonprofit organizations, state and governmental entities, and educational entities which have at least one employee and meet the criteria.
“This award serves as a ‘thank you’ to companies and organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to public education,” said Gail Lowe, chair of the State Board of Education. “We all share some responsibility for educating the next generation of leaders, and those who receive this award have recognized and accepted the challenge. The board is grateful for all that they do for our public schools.”
Employers will be eligible to receive an award at one of three levels: bronze, silver, or gold. Eligibility is based on the business meeting the following criteria for one of the three levels:
- Bronze: for an employer that implements a policy to encourage and support employees who attend parent-teacher conferences;
- Silver for an employer that:
- meets the requirements of bronze; and
- implements a policy to encourage and support employees who volunteer in school activities; and
- Gold for an employer that:
- meets the requirements of silver; and
- implements a policy to encourage and support employees who participate in student mentoring programs in schools.
The program requires a business to submit an application to the Texas Education Agency. The application form is available online.
You can either download the application and mail it in to the address provided on the application or you can fill it out online and send it in via email. Instructions on how to do so are on the application form.
Applications will be accepted from June 1 through July 31. The commissioner of education or his designee will review the applications and make recommendations to the SBOE regarding businesses that should receive an award and the level of recognition. The SBOE may approve or modify the commissioner’s recommendation.
The SBOE will honor the recipient(s) of an Employers for Education Excellence Award by presenting the recipient(s) with an award that includes the level of recognition and other appropriate information.
The awards will be valid for three years. At the end of three years, a business may reapply for the same level of recognition or for a higher level if they meet the criteria.
The complete application must be submitted by July 31 to:
