Anita Givens named deputy associate commissioner for the Texas Education Agency

  

  

AUSTIN – Commissioner of Education Robert Scott announced today that Anita Givens will be named the Texas Education Agency’s deputy associate commissioner for standards and alignment, effective February 1.

Givens will oversee numerous policy development areas including curriculum, textbooks and educational technology, under the direction of newly named associate commissioner Sharon Jackson.

Previously, Givens served as the senior director for Instructional Materials and Educational Technology at TEA, responsible for the review, adoption and distribution of electronic instructional materials as well as traditional textbooks.

Givens, who has worked at TEA for nearly 17 years and in the public education arena for 26 years, brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience to this position. She is known nationally for her leadership in educational technology and instructional materials. Along with her service at TEA, Givens is a former kindergarten and second grade teacher and has taught educational technology classes at all levels from elementary through graduate school.

Givens holds a master of science degree from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and a bachelor of arts degree in early childhood education from Houston Baptist University.
