Veterans Day statement of Commissioner Michael Williams

AUSTIN - Commissioner of Education Michael Williams today issued the following statement regarding Veterans Day and the significance of veterans in Texas public education:

"On this day, we unite as a nation to honor those who have proudly served our country in all branches of the military. As Americans, we owe a debt to these men and women who worked to protect the freedoms we hold dear. Such a debt can never truly be repaid.

"In Texas, we witness our veterans' commitment to service in school districts every day.  A great number of our school teachers, administrators, coaches and staff are military veterans helping to shape the lives of students who represent the future of our state. On every campus in Texas, you'll likely find veterans volunteering, mentoring and contributing time, resources and wisdom to help assure the success of young men and women.

"And beyond those who have served, military families remain an essential component in school communities throughout the state. The sons and daughters of military families help to strengthen the diversity of our Texas public education system and remind us of the sacrifices necessary to maintain our freedom.

On this Veterans Day, I join with everyone at the Texas Education Agency in expressing our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude. Thank you to all our veterans for all you have done and all you continue to do for our state and nation."
