Assessment tasks have been developed at different levels of complexity for each state-required essence statement. Level 3 assessment tasks are the most complex and require students to apply knowledge. Level 2 assessment tasks are moderately complex and require students to recall information recently presented. Level 1 assessment tasks are the least complex and require students to respond at the beginning awareness level. Specific verbs are used at each complexity level and help define the complexity of what the student is expected to do.
The teacher is responsible for determining the most appropriate assessment task at a specific complexity level for the student.
