The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills–Modified (TAKS–M) sample items are developed using released TAKS items which have been reviewed and revised by educator committees as part of the test development process. All subject-area samples are intended to be used as an example of what TAKS–M test items and passages might look like following the modification process. The samples are not a full representation of what can be modified or tested, nor are they representative of complete subject-area tests. Therefore, these items should not be used as practice tests. Teachers are encouraged to use the TAKS–M Modification Guidelines and these sample items and passages as examples when modifying other released TAKS tests or instructional materials for use in the classroom.

2010 TAKS–M Sample Items
The 2010 TAKS–M sample items have been modified using a representative set of TAKS items that have been field-tested but are no longer eligible for inclusion on an operational test. In most cases, the TAKS–M sample items in their original TAKS format can be found at the following link: 2010 TAKS Released Items. The TAKS–M sample items for every grade and subject assessed includes an answer key, which provides the objective, the TEKS student expectations, and the correct answer for each item.
2008–2009 TAKS–M Sample Items
The 2008–2009 TAKS–M sample items, in most cases, include original TAKS passages and items along with a modified TAKS–M version of each item. The samples of the revising and editing portions of the writing tests do not include the original TAKS passages and items because the nature of writing tests does not allow for direct comparison. Released TAKS–M tests from 2009 are available at 2009 TAKS–M Released Tests.
*The grade 10 sample items for reading and revising & editing and the grade 11 sample items for revising & editing represent only a portion of the TAKS–M English language arts (ELA) tests at those grade levels.
